Messaging

How do I message another player in Old Light?

You send private messages to other players. Start a conversation from a player's profile by clicking the Message envelope beside the close button, or open the Messages inbox in the top bar to continue a conversation you already have going.

In Old Light you can send private messages to other players. Start a conversation from a player's profile, their systems on the map, or your inbox.

Starting a conversation

Three ways to start one:

Who can send

You can send messages once your account is verified and you have built up a real empire. New and unverified accounts can read what others send them but can't reply yet. If you can't send, the compose box says what's missing.

When you message a newer player who can't reply yet, a note at the top of the chat tells you.

Staying on top of replies

The Messages button shows a count of unread messages, which also appears in the browser tab title. Unread conversations move to the top of the list, and opening one marks it read.

Messages from Old Light

The game sends you the occasional message from Old Light, like a welcome when you join. You can't reply to these.

Good conduct

You're talking to real people. Be civil.

In space, no one can hear you scream.
