Old Light now has named regions and regional leaderboards

The Old Light galaxy map zoomed out, with named regions such as Celstead and Ferrdale outlined across empire territory

The Old Light galaxy has a new layer on the map. Sectors are now grouped into named regions, each one a block of around 150 sectors, and every region keeps its own leaderboard.

What a region is#

A region is made of whole sectors, so its border always follows sector borders and every sector belongs to exactly one region. Regions vary in size. Each has its own name, such as Celstead or Ferrdale.

In the game, region borders are drawn as solid lines on the galaxy view. Where a region border runs, it replaces the dashed sector line underneath. The public galaxy map shows them too, across the whole galaxy, with each region's name.

To open a region, inspect any system and use the Region row. The sector view and the galaxy map's info box have the same row.

A leaderboard for every region#

The galaxy leaderboard ranks every empire against every other. A region's leaderboard only ranks the empires inside it, and it ranks them differently: by how many sectors in the region they hold the sector bonus for. Ties go to the empire with more systems in the region. Each row also shows the empire's score from its systems there.

You appear on a region's leaderboard as soon as you own a system in it or hold one of its sectors. Sector bonuses follow territory, so the ranking moves whenever borders do.

Public region pages#

Every region with an owned system in it has its own public page, readable without an account. It has a map of the region with each empire's territory in its colour, the regional leaderboard, the region's sectors with links to their sector pages, and links to the neighbouring regions.

The other public pages link to regions now as well. A sector page says which region the sector belongs to, the galaxy overview has a list of regions, and so does the galaxy map.

The regions guide has the full rules.
